‘X-Men: First Class’ Premiere: Emma Frost and January Jones
Wednesday, May 25th, 2011X-Men editor Nick Lowe hosted Marvel’s live blog event for the “X-Men: First Class” premiere in New York City and talked a lot about Emma Frost and interviewed January Jones.
In regards to Emma’s character in the comics, Lowe said:
She is quite possibly my favorite x-character. One of the coolest things about Emma Frost in the comics: she started off as a villain. She was a member of the villainous Hellfire Club, and she was one of the best villains out there. She was mean. And she was smart. And she was pretty. And the coolest thing is that after a while, she ended up at the side of the angels but never quite full on hero. She’s always been one of the characters where you’re not sure if she’s a hero. You’re not sure if she’s a villain. She’s just a lot of fun that way. She’s actually a key member of the X-Men – one of the leaders of the X-Men now, and shes still the same snarky character we knew and loved from when she was a villain.
Lowe interviewed assistant editor Marc Strom at Marvel, as well as January Jones and several other actors, who arrived in vintage cars.
Nick Lowe asked Strom, who interviewed several actors from the movie, how he felt January Jones embodied Emma Frost.
“Emma Frost is very prim and proper in the comics…and (January Jones) brought that whole element into the movie. She is very deadly,” he said. “She’s a very dangerous character, and I think she really tapped into that, and she sort of spoke about that as well.”
January Jones said she had a lot of fun filming “X-Men: First Class.” One of the reasons is because she hadn’t been involved in such a large franchise in the past.
“I had a blast. It was an adventure I’d never been a part of before – something on such a grand scale, like this franchise,” she said. “I had no experience with special effects, so it was a challenge.”
Lowe mentioned January Jones’ role in “Mad Men” and asked how Betty Draper would feel about Emma Frost’s choice of clothing.
“I dont think she would approve. Yeah, not so much.” she said.
Even though January Jones plays a telepath in the movie, she does not wish to be a telepath in real life.
“(Being a telepath) would be miserable. I don’t want to know what people are thinking,” she said.
“X-Men: First Class” arrives in theatres June 1 in the UK and June 3 in the US.
